Obituary for Daniel Peter Halpin

Daniel P. Halpin, 89, lifelong resident of Somers and loving husband of the late Antoinette (Siano) Halpin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital. Dan was born January 29, 1930, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Gautreau) Halpin. Dan proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home from the Army he excelled as a loom operator at the Bigelow Sandford Carpet Co. in Thompsonville. As the carpet business began to slow Dan found a better opportunity at KAMAN Aerospace where he worked for 33 years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of All Saints Church and a member of the American Legion Buck-Dubiel Post 101 of Somers. Dan loved his home and beautiful farm that he spent countless hours creating and maintaining. During the weekend, his driveway often resembled a parking lot filled with the cars and pickup trucks of friends and family that were stopping by for a visit. Dan was an excellent story teller and had a plethora of jokes that could keep a room full of people entertained for hours. He enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, and tending to his always bountiful vegetable garden. He was a family man at his core and loved nothing more than to teach and guide his children and later his grandchildren. Dan is survived by his cherished little dog Maggie, four children, Lisa Coope and her husband Tom, Karen Alger and her husband Steve, and Danna Krzynowek and her husband Michael, all of Somers and William Halpin of Stafford; five grandchildren, Kara Coope, Brian Coope, Daniel Halpin, Niko Krzynowek and his wife, Kayla, and Bianca Krzynowek; a beloved brother Jerry Halpin and his wife, Rose of MA and several nieces, nephews. Dan was predeceased by twin daughters, Donna and Darcy and his brother, Robert “Buddy” Halpin of Somers. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Monday, August 12, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St, (Route 190) Somers. A funeral procession will gather on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at the funeral home at 10 am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am at All Saints Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Somers Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Dan may be made to the American Legion Buck-Dubiel Post 100, Post Office Box 101, Somers, CT 06071-0101 or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049 Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
