Obituary for Gerald Alexander Goulet

Gerald Alexander Goulet 89, of Suffield, formerly of Hartford CT and Island Pond VT, was peacefully called home to the Lord just prior to sunrise on October 26th, 2019. He was just 5 days short of his 90th Birthday (Oct.31st).
Gerry was born in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom, Island Pond VT, on Halloween 1929, the son of Omar and Georgianna (Caron) Goulet. He was a railroad man all his working years. He started at the age of 15 icing down perishable freight cars for the Grand Trunk Railroad in Island Pond, and retired at 62 as a freight train conductor for Conrail in Hartford CT.
Gerry was a proud U.S Army veteran of the Korean War and while overseas he was assigned to running supply trains for the troops. After the war, Gerry returned home and married his beloved Dora Ann (Paradis) in February 1954. They honeymooned at Mardi Gras in New Orleans and a week later, made Hartford their home and raised their family. Gerry and “Doe” returned home to Island Pond VT every summer to vacation and attend reunion gatherings with family and friends. Just last year, Gerry attended his 70th High School Class Reunion in Island Pond! Sadly, Dora Ann predeceased Gerald in 2013 after nearly 60 years of marriage. Soon after Doe’s passing, Gerry moved to Suffield to be closer to family. He loved his new apartment at Suffield Commons, where he made many new and dear friends who will miss his friendly presence and joking manner. Gerald loved to play cards and is probably organizing a poker game with all the family members that predeceased him as we write this.
He was a member of the American Legion Brighton Post #80 in Island Pond, VT and life member of the Island Pond Historical Society.
Gerry is survived by his daughter, Michele Goulet Hunter and her husband Chuck of Suffield, his son Shawn Goulet of St Louis, MO; his grandchildren Craig Hunter of Alexandria Virginia, Chelsea Hunter of Suffield, Alex Goulet and Connor Goulet of St. Louis MO, his sister in-law Nancy Goulet of Cromwell, Ct. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Jerome A. Goulet, his sister Patricia Coty and her husband Harold Coty, brother Eugene Goulet and beloved daughter in-law Christine Taylor Goulet. Per Gerry’s wishes, there will be no services locally. There will be a memorial service at a later date at the convenience of the family in Island Pond VT, where Gerald’s remains will be laid to rest in the family plot, next to his beloved Dora Ann, overlooking beautiful Island Pond Lake.
