Obituary for Kathlena A. Funk-Anderson

Kathlena Funk-Anderson, born in Dover, Ohio on December 27, 1950, to Mary and Ivan Funk, passed to be with the Lord on October 1, 2019. She was predeceased by father, Ivan Funk and is survived by husband, Gerald Anderson; mother, Mary; daughters, Michelle (Michael) Lewandowski and Kimberly (Richard) Loomis; granddaughters, Sarah Lewandowski, Anna Lewandowski, Eira Loomis, and Genevieve Loomis; a grandson, Dylan Loomis; brother, Wayne and sister, Heidi of Ohio.
Her journey through life took many turns: living next to lake Erie in Huron, Ohio, Mishawaka, Indiana, San Antonio, Texas, Heerleen, Netherlands, and finally settling into Enfield, CT in 1981. Traveling brought her much joy and she was able to visit seven countries throughout Europe and 48 states; getting her feet in the Pacific Ocean being something she spoke of often and with reverence. Those travels, much to the consternation of the resident neat freak, aided and abetted another favored pastime: shopping. This has resulted in a tremendous amount of collectibles, both for herself and all those people she treasured.
A beloved girl scout leader, she enjoyed working with her troop in many endeavors including winter camping, crafting, and teaching the fine art of M&M poker. This was fit in around her night shift job as an LPN where she was much respected by the people she worked with and those she cared for. Forced into retirement early due to a congenital heart condition, her love of reading and people spilled over into a journey of familial history and resulted in her amassing a genealogy database in excess of 28,000 names. As most of them were deceased there were no complaints of any spelling errors.
For all her reluctance at being social in her later years, she loved people and cared greatly about nurturing connections as best she could; her greatest joy was watching and being with the grandchildren. And yes, she also loved adding to their collection of souvenir key chains (that love of shopping again!) and post cards diligently sent from every location she visited. She is well loved and already missed by her family.
