Obituary for Lydia Cherlong (Inguanti)

Lydia (Inguanti) Cherlong, 83, of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of the late George "Neal" Cherlong (Sept. 10, 2019), passed away Tuesday Oct. 29, 2019 at Bickford Healthcare. Born in Alexandria Egypt and raised in the village of Palazzolo in Sicily Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Antonia (Serieux) Inguanti. She lived in Windsor Locks since 1966, where she and Neal raised their family. She made the most wonderful Italian cookies and was famous for her Friday night home cooked Italian Pizza, which the neighborhood children eagerly awaited. She taught Italian through Adult Education classes in CT and MA for over 20 years. She was active at St. Robert Bellarmine Church where she donated her time organizing the annual Christmas Bizarre and Parish trips. Lydia was employed as an usher at the Bushnell in Hartford and loved seeing operas and performances. She enjoyed traveling all over the world enjoying and experiencing so many different cultures. Lydia loved Angels, cats, and most importantly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lydia is survived by three daughters, Christine Decker, Victoria Walsh and her husband Daniel, and Jessica Dewey, all of Windsor Locks; eight grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Dewey, Olivia Senter, Paige Decker, Andrew Cabral, Kevin and Owen Walsh and Debora Cherlong, and two great-grandchildren, Alaina Senter and Carson Dewey, two nephews, Angelo and Michael Rizza Lydia was predeceased by a son, Daniel Douglas Cherlong, and a sister Clotilde Rizza. Her family wishes to thank the Nurses and staff at Bickford Healthcare for the wonderful care they provided for Lydia. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
